This will be my first trip to Lisbon. I don't have any friends who've been other than for a day on business. Anyone have any insight on what the must do's are for a week in Lisbon? Where is the most interesting part of the city to stay in..(with a modest, working person's budget) Where are the bohemian artsy fartsy spots, where is the best food, wine, etc. What exhibit can't be missed?...etc. etc. etc. I want to know what I can't find in the books...Can anyone help?

Fri, March 19, 2004 - 10:30 AMdid you go? i'm just getting back on tribe...
i don't know the city super well but when i was there (10 years ago) i stayed in the bairro alto, which was lovely (cobblestone streets and mellow, affordable). spent a lot of time wandering, taking pictures of the little mary altars everywhere, enjoying the food smells that could have been coming from my grandmother's kitchen. there was a cool gallery with an exhibit on the azulejos (blue tiles). we treated ourselves to an afternoon at the port wine institute.
